The Saga Continues

The Mac Saga continues as the sound and video breaks completely on this device. So I'm like, okay, I'll restart as a first step and see if that fixes it. Oh, it wants to do updates before I restart, okay maybe that will help too. Oh, I need to login to my apple store ID to do that...okay. Oh it wants me to update and reset my account cause...uh...security reasons...even though I literally did that a couple months ago. Fine, I have jumped through your hoops, I reset my account, used a password that hasn't been used in the last year, dug through my spam email to find the reset email and now I have a functioning Apple ID. Great. And then you spring it on me that the "apps are not linked to my Apple ID." Wat.

Apparently all the Apps are linked to the PERSONAL account of the person who owned this laptop last. Someone I can't really contact especially since they are likely in Denmark now (long story). And you can't change the account manually. So I'm like...okay FINE just restart the damn machine then.

Then it spends 20 minutes updating...something? I'm not sure what the hell it updated because when it was done I still had the same updates queued in the App store. Apparently upgrading to the new OS MIGHT (Google seems unsure) allow you to change the Apple ID Apps are linked to. Of course clicking that requires billing info etc. and I just don't feel like jumping through more hoops at the moment. So this will stay broken for the time being.

Also, I might have mentioned this before, but this is essentially the last chapter in the saga:

dr.schwa: all right mac, I opened a new finder window. Where’s the hard disk at? YOU LIE
dr.schwa: it is really hard to find how big my hard drive is
dr.schwa: on my mac
eme: hmmm
dr.schwa: guess mac users dont need to know this information
eme: i don't actually know where to go to find that on my laptop lol
eme: but i have a little program an ex showed me that measures that all for me lol
dr.schwa: christ in a hat. I needed to minimize everything, go to the desktop with finder and use the “go” option to find the computer and THERE is the HD
dr.schwa: 54GB
dr.schwa: is that…the size or how much I’m using...?
dr.schwa: how much I’m using
dr.schwa: god how hard is it that to say
dr.schwa: it just says “size”
dr.schwa: k this is a 250GB
eme: good job apple
dr.schwa: I think that was only 5 minutes, but I feel like a significant chunk of my life is now gone
dr.schwa: all the stuff I googled was useless

Basically I wanted to know how much hard drive space I have on this device...for logical reasons. It took me some time to figure out where to find that. The three methods (yes three different ones) that I found all didn't help. Sigh.
