Happy Holidays

I've been writing emails about the holidays all morning so I thought I'd take a break and pop over here...to write more about well wishes for the holidays....

At any rate, I hope whatever you celebrate is full of sweets and joy...and joyness.

The next uploading stint for Overlord 2 will be on the 28th, then again on the 30th. I may upload other random videos in between, but I have no concrete plans. I really want to take the next couple of days and just relax. I will probably record more Alice (which I have a good start on). There is much death, but not too much rage...yet.

I feel like a Charlie the Unicorn reference kind of dates me...but it's not that old!

Forgetful

It's only going to get worse. I forgot that I said I'd also be looking into playing the Bioshock series as well. This will be another LP series that will appear in 2014.

To finish 2013:
Half Life 1
Penumbra - Overture, Black Plague - with Shauna
Overlord 2 (just need to upload the segments (35 total)

Coming in 2014:
Alice: Madness Returns (will record and maybe put out a couple videos before the new year)
Dark Souls
Bioshock - 1, 2, Infinite
Penumbra: Requiem - with Shauna

Co-op or Multiplayer 2014:
Magicka (will be posted on GameVoyeur's YouTube)
Unreal Tournament 3 - Tentative
Diablo 2 Expansion - Tenative
Age of Empires 3 (I have about 20 games recorded that I played with my brother...I may post a few of those if there's interest)

Is it bad that the lists here are probably going to end up being mostly for me?

Torpedo Puppies

I am still in awe of what I experienced at the end of Overlord 2. I played this once before, and memories of the final boss came rushing back to me like the mess of a creature the Overlord needs to take down. There are no words to describe what I witnessed, and if you haven't played/seen the game, I'm not going to ruin the effect this magnificent beast has on someone's mind. Meanwhile, torpedo puppies end up shooting out of holes in the ground. It makes me giggle. Maybe I'll upload a sneak peak of that one.

The videos created from Overlord 2 are...very large. I should have encoded at a lower resolution for these ones, but the raw files are deleted at this point, so there's not much I can do about it. This means that the LP will take a long time to upload, and will probably be done in bursts of 1-4 videos at a time depending on the connection speed I have available. I intend to use this upcoming weekend to begin recording Alice: Madness Returns on Nightmare difficulty as requested, and to make some other specials to celebrated the holidays. I will start Dark Souls early in the new year.

Good Questions

Thought this was an interesting article and decided to share. It's an issue that's always been floating around and reoccurring on the internet. It's also one I don't believe I've been directly influenced by. I do remember when I did my text LPs on my old account, people automatically assumed I was a male gamer, which is fair as that's the stereotype. I just didn't tend to correct them. People can think what they want to. I'm not going to go crusading around starting fights and trying to prove girls and women play video games. I just figured that it was implied. If it's not, than it should be. The intelligent people know this, so I figure there's no need to shove it down people's throats. I play games and record them simply to exist in the medium. I show that I play games (with varying degrees of success)  and I have fun, so I'm not too concerned about what anyone has to say about that.

Overlord 1 is completely uploaded and I will be moving on to Overlord 2 shortly. I have about 1/3 of Overlord 2 recorded and nearly that much encoded. The only problem is that the files are rather large, so I will be uploading in 20-30min segments and no larger. After this is completed, I will be moving on to Dark Souls and Alice: Madness Returns, as I have had requests to play those games. I had a God of War request as well, but I do not own a capture card at this time.

(And yes, I am aware that Half Life and Penumbra remain unfinished. I will get to those. Promise =D)

Twilight Days of my Hard Drive

So, here's the scoop. My hard drive is probably going to die in the near future. This is bad because a) it is my largest hard drive that I use to record all my raw files and b) because I have a lot of unproduced videos and projects stored on that drive. I have made archive copies of all the important old videos on my other drive for now, but I have an entire LP of Penumbra: Overture, the first 40 minutes of Penumbra: Black Plague, a ton of Neverwinter footage I never finished sifting through, two chapters of Half Life that are in the middle of being edited (and fixed as I had some problems with the recording) and all of the Amnesia: Machine for Pigs videos, which I am still using to produce a...special video.

This means a couple of things. I no longer have the luxury of storing videos on this drive and working on them when I feel up to the task. These videos must be produced as soon as possible, so I cannot give them the attention they need. I was planning inserting text comments and jokes into Half Life and the Penumbra videos. This takes time as I have to watch the whole LP. I also need to resync some of the audio in Penumbra because apparently these videos want to make me miserable. I'm certain now that it's the lag in the games doing it, and since the voice audio and game are recorded in two separate places...this causes problems. Then on top of that, 25-45 minute videos take 2-3 hours to encode. I can only produce one video at a time unless I get creative (which will require the use of other hard drives anyway).

What's worse is I no longer have a lot of storage space to work with. I currently cannot afford to buy myself new hard drives because I need the money I have for the holidays. I will have to wait until the new year. This drive is my 2TB. The others are all 600GB and lower. This is fine for some games, but the problem is my drives are full of OTHER footage. I am currently recording Overlord 2, which takes up a lot of space. An hour, thirty minutes takes 300GB of space. That's 3.3GB per minute. Yay Fraps.

So, the point of this post, essentially, is to say that my video production schedule will slow significantly until I get this sorted out. The good news is, I still have Overlord 1 to upload, so you will continue to have a running LP. The bad news is, plans may change, footage may be lost and I cannot realistically start or continue a new LP without great difficulty.

Last news is, regardless of whether or not the hard drive survives until the new year, I am working on some special projects for the holidays. I have a lot of...amusing unused footage lurking in the depths of my computer. Keep your eyes out in mid-December for new non-LP videos.

Also, it's not relevant, but, I have my drivers license now. It's kind of a big deal. Well...for me. Now I must attain a chariot worthy of my reign of terror on the road. I mean...that's a nice safe buggy to go on lovely Sunday afternoon drives around town. Yes...safe...

New Environment

New (possibly) temporary blog style. I was getting tired of the mustard yellow. I figure it fits the style on my YouTube channel a little better anyway. I'm still thinking of using custom backgrounds and other art on here, but I have been preoccupied with other projects lately.

Speaking of projects, Overlord continues to be uploaded. I meant to bring my hard drive with me today to upload more Overlord, but I was in a hurry and forgot. I will upload at least one segment per night at the very least (each segment takes around 300 minutes to upload on my home network). The LP is almost finished, with what I believe to be a little over an hour left in gameplay. Depending on what access I have to other networks, I should have the LP uploaded completely by next Saturday. Then, I think I'm going to LP Overlord 2. It's that or Lost Kingdoms. We shall see.

The Next LP

New LP going to start going up tonight. I would have started uploading last night, but others using internet in my household did not appreciate the poor quality of video on their Netflix program and I fell asleep before they did. Regardless, this LP should go up fairly fast as the audio and video worked the way it should (for once) and I have decided to do a voice commentary on it only.

I originally intended to have more Half Life videos up, but I have run into a couple of problems in its production. I will get them uploaded as soon as possible.

Dolphin

I have been thinking of LPing Gamecube games for quite some time now in addition to my PC games. I think it would be a nice mix up from the usual and I already have a list of about 5 games I'd like to LP. The only problem is that I do not have a capture card. This poses a problem. Thankfully I can use Dolphin emulator, but my main recording computer isn't quite up to snuff. The game works, but the lag is significant. It's actually a little painful to watch let alone play. Therefore, I will be trying it on a gaming laptop when I get it back.

Meanwhile, the Diablo 2 Co-op LP should be done uploading tonight and I assume we will be moving on to the expansion soon. Half life 1 is almost complete. I have most of it recorded on my hard drive. I just need to edit and encode the segments. There has been much silliness in my recent recording sessions including me not realizing that I wasn't recording for an hour and a half. I was quite angry. Lastly, I have a Penumbra: Overture LP almost complete that I have been working on with Shauna. That should be uploaded late next week.

So in summary:
Diablo 2 Act 4 - Nov. 10
Half Life 1 videos - Nov. 12-15
Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction: TBA
GameCube LPs: Lost Kingdoms - TBA

If anyone has a request for a PC LP, please let me know. If not, I probably will move on to games that I feel like playing (right now the forerunners are F.E.A.R. 1, Overlord and Thief 1)

Update

Update:

Kathleen has set up and tested her live stream. I also will probably have a live stream going at some point if anyone is interested. We will be playing from 8am Mountain Time(-7) on Saturday to 9am on Sunday, so feel free to check in any time between and we'll probably have at least one of the two streams going. I'll be recording some video to upload later.

Extra Life Fundraising

So, this weekend I will be participating in the Extra Life charity event and will be playing video games for 25 hours straight. I will be joining my friend Kathleen at her home, who has been raising money since the summer for the event. Her and a couple of her buddies and I will be playing all sorts of games, taking requests and streaming through xsplit in Twitch. If you would like to tune in to the livestream, I will be posting a link when Kathleen has it set up, probably by the end of today. If you would like to donate, she is super close to reaching her goal of $500 dollars and can be given at this site:

Kathleen's Extra Life Fundraising Page

I will be playing games and you'll probably catch me playing in the livestream. I will also record some, hopefully getting some good footage for videos. Thanks all, I'll keep this page posted with updates!

Dated

I was looking at my blog today and realized it really needs an update. I'd like to bring in some custom designs and content rather than use the templates provided. I'm not sure of the timeline on this as I have not played around with graphic design in awhile, so this should be fun. I'll see what I can come up with. I want to take a bunch of elements from the games that have been a part of my videos and incorporate them into the designs.

Act 2 of Diablo 2 is uploading as I type. I am not sure when the next recording session will be. I either have work or other commitments for the majority of the week, so I'm looking at this weekend.

Spelling

I shouldn't be bothered by this, but I am. When I change my language from "English (United States)" to "English (United Kingdom)," I expected the text "Eversor Fatalis's blog" to change to "Eversor Fatalis' Blog." Minor change, but it still irks me.

Work on Diablo 2 continues. We'll be recording again some time after the Thanksgiving weekend. In the meantime, I've been extremely slow in encoding material as I haven't felt well enough to sit at a computer for long periods of time and actually use my brain. I've had a nasty bout of the flu and all I was content to do was lie on the couch rekindling an old relationship with the Supernatural series. Let's put it this way, I have never called in to this job before on account of sickness. Also, I am now addicted to Supernatural again.

I have a special Amnesia video planned, but I am unsure of how to proceed as it makes use of a lot of songs and media that I do not own the rights to. I am trying to work it into a humourous review or critique of the game, but if it does not go well I will consider doing something else with the material. Regardless, the LP is now complete. Go watch us be scared!

I have had no motivation to play Half Life for the previously mentioned reasons. Instead I have foolishly started playing Oblivion and Skyrim again. There goes another good chunk of my life.

NOTE: I was really tempted to type: "I expected 'Eversor Fatalis's blog' to change to 'Pip, pip cheerio Eversor Fatalis' Blog mate,' but then I'd have a legion of offended Brits after me. Wait...

Some Extras

Here's a list of some of the references Shauna and I make in the Machine for Pigs videos so far. Just for fun. In no particular order.

Horror Workout
VINCENT PRICE
BYE
Electric Slide
Out of the blue and into the black
Gerbil (2:25 specifically)

I will add more as I edit the video. I will be uploading part 6 and hopefully 7 this evening.

EVIL in the DARK Beware

The TERROR will consume us all. And other cliche phrases and words.

Diablo 2 Act 1 is completed. For the most part, I'd say the LP is going well so far. I think we'll try and slow down play a bit to be thorough and explore all the areas available (we aren't particularly interested in rushing). Nintendog/Sacrosanct and GameVoyeur are playing with me, the former through text and the latter being the second voice you will hear. I expect the first few of these videos to be uploaded before the weekend.

Amnesia footage is slowly, but surely being edited. It's not an overly large game, but as I have mentioned, it has required more of my attention. I am extremely excited about the special project I have going that I will post after the LP is complete. I have a good chunk of it done already and will be consulting Shauna about any other content she'd like to add. I am having a ton of fun producing it though. I get to try out some more video editing techniques as well. EVIL genius mode engaged. We'll see how effective that ends up being.

Also, I rewatched the hour or so that I played of the sewer section and the big scare I got. Let's just say that I find my own terror quite hilarious. Unfortunately if others find it hilarious as well, I may be...convinced to play more horror video games.

Too Many Pigs

Shauna and I finished A Machine for Pigs today. We had mixed feelings of the game, but ultimately we enjoyed playing. It surprisingly didn't match up to Outlast in terms of overall horror, but, it did have one section that I was nearly paralyzed with fear, so I'll give it that. I think it might have been an early instance of a pig man being right behind me with no warning, but I was crippled for about 30-40 minutes playing where I became a shaking mess of garbled words. Stay tuned for part 7 (whenever I catch up in my encoding) to see me almost fall apart completely.

In other news, I am a mad genius without the genius in that I have concocted an new idea for a (hopefully) humourous compilation video. The idea came to me when I put the image of two incredibly creepy ghost children to the theme of Captain Planet. I'll let your imagination run wild for what the rest of the video will be like. I'm not sure of the timeline on that one as I want to get the full LP out first, which requires me to sync audio, make comments, clean up the video as best I can and encode another 4 (ish) hours of gameplay.

Half life has been paused for a moment to create more hard drive space and for when I have a good chunk of time to sit down and play. Expect this LP to be done mid-October. Also, Diablo 2 will be LPed. I have done some tests and the videos have been produced perfectly. The only issue that I may have is balancing audio. Regardless, I will be co-op LPing with two other people.

Desynced

I would have had Amnesia: Machine for Pigs footage up days ago, but I encountered an odd problem that I had with Outlast as well. The audio somehow becomes desynced slightly as the video progresses. It's not so bad, until events like a scream ends up in the wrong place or I encounter echoing dialogue. The audio at this point becomes extremely distracting, so I needed to manually resync the audio every 10-20 minutes. This task is almost done, and I have had the opportunity to comment on some of the events already, but I estimate that the first videos won't be uploaded until the middle of the week. Sorry!

As for other LPs, I have yet to finish Half Life, which is next on my list to complete. Meanwhile I have a ton of Age of Empires 3 games and some fun Left 4 Dead 2 mod videos that I debated uploading in the meantime. I also plan on starting my Diablo 2 LP, probably co-op as a few people have expressed an interest in playing the game with me. I will see how Fraps handles the game (last time I tried it 4 years ago it kept crashing the game), and how well the connection between players are as they will not be local.

All this is subject to change based on my work situation. I'll be applying for a few jobs that I am excited about, so hopefully that will turn out well. Cross your fingers for me.

Also, I would like to try Live Streaming video again for fun. I'm not sure what game, and I need to test some software, but if you have any suggestions of love streams you'd like to see, post them here or on my YouTube page. (So far I'm thinking the Morrowind full conversion mod for Oblivion or just straight up Skyrim).

Lots to Upload

For once. I guess that's what happens when you only have a couple of shifts a week. The frequency of uploads may change when I get a full time job, but for now I just have to worry about flooding people's feeds.

Hit 200 subscribers yesterday, which is a pretty awesome feeling. I make and post videos as a hobby, but I put a lot of effort into it, and the fact that people are actually interested in watching, as small as it is, is a real honour and makes every minute spent playing, recording, editing, encoding and uploading worth it. I've never been interested in making money off of my channel or attracting a huge amount of subscribers, so having a small viewer group is all I could really ask for. As for joining groups or partnerships, I will only do so if it is a group of people I know, have worked with them in the past, and share a lot of the same interests. Anyhow, I want to thank everyone who watches my videos!

On that note, I should be done uploading Outlast by Monday or Tuesday depending on my connection. I have everything encoded and ready to upload, and I've had Billy Joel's "Piano Man" stuck in my head on loop for the last three days because of this LP, but it's done. I was much more freaked out during this game than I was playing Amnesia. As for A Machine for Pigs, I'm not sure what the plan is for that LP. Shauna and I looked at it the day it came out, and there's this strange blue filter on it that wasn't present on any of the trailers or gameplay previews. I wasn't too concerned about it, though I must admit it doesn't look that great. Regardless, I believe we plan on making an LP of that in the future.

Diablo 1 and Half Life 1 will continue to alternate in uploads until they are finished. I expect Diablo 1 to be fully uploaded by the end of next week (unless I take a day or two off to give my network a break) and Half Life 1 will be finished and completely uploaded probably the week after. I still haven't finished Half Life 1, but I will say that there are some incredibly silly moments ahead concerning some soldiers and the ninja assassin fellows.

As for future LPs, I have had requests to play through Diablo 2 and Black Mesa. I will probably leave Black Mesa to just before the New Year as I want a bit of a break after Half Life 1. I don't know how similar the two are, but it would be weird playing essentially the same game back to back. What would be interesting would be to compare the two. As for Diablo 2, I have my reservations about it. I may do this LP as with 1 to 2 other people who have expressed interest in playing. My first worry is that the game will not record well as I've had problems with that in the past. Fraps and the quality of my computer, however, have been improved in the last 5 years. My second issue is that I have had...bad experiences with the game in the past, partially of my doing and I am not eager to repeat that experience. My greatest fear is that there will be conflict of interest and the LP will fall apart, but these people seem like decent fellows, and I'm much more mature than I was 5 years ago.

I also plan on maybe LPing Overlord and Overlord 2, working my way down the list of my favourite games to play. Another few options would be games I have never played before: Miasmata, the Thief series, Bastion, Torchlight, Torchlight 2 and Deus Ex. If there are any other suggestions of games you would like to see me LP, leave a comment here or on my channel and I'll do my best to fulfill those requests. There are very few games I will refuse to record/LP.

Dungeon Siege 3 Complete

I have finished and uploaded all of the Dungeon Siege 3 LP. The playlist is complete if you are looking for a specific video or are interested in watching them in order. I'm planning on doing a review of the whole series, comparing 1 through 3 to each other in terms of graphics, style, music, playability and more. Not sure what format I will do this in. I'm still interested in reviewing and critiquing games. It's too bad there are many people out there more entertaining than myself!

I have finished the Diablo 1 LP, which will begin uploading in a few days time. I am currently working on my next LP, but am unsure of how long it will take to finish it, especially since I have terrible aim (there's a hint for you). I will continue to produce LPs because I am enjoying it and because I really need to keep myself busy while I find work. I will go insane otherwise.

Coming Up:

Diablo 1 LP - Uploading every 1 - 2 days (LP is just over 10 hours long meaning there will be around 20 parts, which means that the LP should be fully uploaded within a week and a half)

Current LP - In the recording stage. Waiting until Diablo 1 is rendered and encoded before editing begins.

Machine for Pigs with Shauna - Videos will be produced and edited the week of September 10

Outlast with Shauna - Tentative - Not sure if that will be an LP, but it will probably be recorded week of September 4 if that's the case

I also have more Left 4 Dead 2 videos, but people haven't seemed too interested in those. I will upload those when I run out of LP material in this case.

*In terms of Amnesia, I will probably be equally scared as the first. I really don't know much about the game though, so a lot of it should be a surprise. I just know that enemies are supposed to be...unpredictable.

**In terms of Outlast, it has the potential to scare me the most as its set in an insane asylum. Bad shit happened to people in those places. They are not good places. Too many movies and TV shows freaked me out. This will be either silly or terrifying.

Phew

Just had a massive scare on account of my external hard drive. This drive has been a little flaky lately anyways, but currently it's the only one that has enough space to do any significant recording. My 3 hour encode was 97% complete and I think I tripped something up by disconnecting another hard drive. My hard drive for some reason, had something go wrong and then I got error messages about the video files, which made frameserver crash, which made Vegas crash and suddenly the drive was no longer on, yet it was still registering on my computer. I open the drive, and nothing is in it. So I start to panic. I go to the drive, unplug it from everything, and then plug it back in. It made no noise when it turned on, so I looked in the folder and everything was back. That said, I may want to look into backing up a few more of my files, though, thankfully uploading to YouTube provides a back-up copy for a lot of video.

That adventure over, I am re-encoding the last few hours of Dungeon Siege 3 right now. The LP will probably be fully uploaded by Friday or Saturday this week depending on how reliable encoding and my internet connection is. Meanwhile, I have started my next LP, Diablo 1.

The last time I played Diablo 1 in full was when I was in high school. Like Dungeon Siege, this was one of the games that made up my childhood along with Dungeon Keeper 2, Age of Empires 2, Warcraft 2 (lol sequels) and a bunch of much more obscure games. As I've mentioned before, I never owned a console until I was 16, so all of my games were on the PC. I played this game A LOT between the ages of 7 to 9, which is hilarious because I was terrified of Disney villains, even at this age. That said, the furthest I ever got when I was a kid was probably around the start of the Hell levels, if that. I watched my father play the harder parts, but even he never finished the game.

I will be playing a Sorcerer, which should be interesting as I've heard it's difficult to start the game as one. I have no idea how long the LP will be, but I'm already to the third level of the catacombs so, we'll see. Also, the files take up hardly any space at all on my drive. I will be LPing another game at the same time, but I will leave that a surprise.

Landed and Lethargic

I have photos now. The journal from this day was a little more disjointed and in multiple tenses because I was EXHAUSTED. I tried to edit it up a bit and clarify some points.

June 21, 2013
(June 21, 2013)

Our first picture from the plane, which includes our friendly Frenchman, who was actually quiet and  kept to himself the whole trip. But I'm sure he was a friendly sort of person.

I honestly can't say that I remember the last 24 hours in any great detail. We arrived in Gatwick, sped through customs (wat) and looked for our bus. Naturally, since I booked us for pick up at the North Terminal, we arrived in the South Terminal. Thankfully, this isn't Canada, so a convenient, quick shuttle train was available to transport passengers between terminals. We arrived, found our stop number, waited for the bus (which turned out to be driven by a humourless young man) and was promptly driven to the South Terminal to pick up more passengers (...yeah). At least we were able to get good seats.

Anyhow, we rode on the bus for about an hour and got stuck in traffic. I tried desperately not to puke from the combination of sudden, frequent braking and the dizzying blur of SHRUBBERY. Rachel passed out from the exhaustion many times, doing the all too familiar "head bob" (I am well acquainted with those from boring university classes). I did not have the luxury of sleeping as a young child kicked my seat all the way to London. So I ate rockets that I found in my backpack to keep me awake and stave off motion sickness. The traffic was mostly due to an accident (a truck had flipped over onto its side) and we were almost in one of our own as a van came speeding down the highway on the wrong side of the road. It was about 2 inches away from hitting us.

When we arrived in London, we were delivered to an old looking warehouse building with a London Tube sign on it. This was not where we had to be to catch the tube to our hostel, so we wandered around the area a little confused until we spotted a string of people who had been on the bus with us. We followed the trail of suitcases down the street to West Brompton station where we were advised that an Oyster Card was not practical for a four day stay in London (we had been told by a friend that Oyster Cards could be more cost efficient depending on our length of stay in the city). We got a day pass instead. That we used once.

...

We figured out which side of the platform to wait on, but spent quite a few minutes trying to figure out what train we were supposed to take. We met another woman, who had been on the bus with us and was from Vancouver, in the same situation as ourselves. We muddled through it together and boarded the train that would get us to our hostels. She left us at South Kensington and we moved to find ourselves a seat for the journey. Then we waited. And waited.

And waited.

And then thirty to forty minutes later on the district line, we arrived in Upton Park (later in Berlin, we told the Londoners we were staying with where our hostel had been and they were shocked, saying how ridiculously far out from the centre we were). We got off the train, went up through the turnstiles and realized once we reached outside that we had no idea where we were going. We started walking one direction after I vaguely remembered that the hostel was supposed to be a short walk from the station, We found a map of the community on a board near an open flea market and figured out that our hostel was a few blocks away. We dragged our tired selves down the street until we spotted the Boleyn Tavern.

The Boleyn Tavern, with our hostel sitting on top along a BUSY street. Seriously, I think a siren went off every five minutes along this road. While we were trying to sleep.

The hostel website informed us that we would have to call into the pub below to check in, but a man outside spotted me trying the locked doors and told us he could let us in. He led us to the door, a small, black entry that required a keycard for access next to a wall topped with barbed wire (cosy!). He let us in and and climbed a steep, blue-carpeted, narrow staircase to the reception desk. We were later informed that these were dubbed the "Anne Frank Stairs" (named thus by one of their previous customers).

The Entry

The man at reception, Jared, told us that our beds were not yet ready, so we were told to come back in an hour. We were allowed to store our bags in a room with hundreds of jars of jam (???) and were referred to a cafe for lunch after I asked what was good in the area. Jared suggested the cafe "Friends," which he said had a couch and everything like the TV show. Upon walking there, we confirmed that they did, indeed, have a couch.

The "Friends" cafe...along with some lovely flowers.

Rachel got a muffin (blueberry) and I got a ham sandwich with "traditional English tea." And then we sat, staring blankly into space for an hour while we ate. We returned to the hostel and the beds still weren't prepared, so we found a (dirty) couch in the lounge where we found out about the floods back at home in Calgary, Canmore and High River. I was pretty upset about this, as was Rachel as well. Upon returning, Calgary has recovered very well, but at the time we thought that a huge chunk of our city had been completely destroyed. It was mostly that case in High River, which still hasn't recovered from the disaster. High River had been nearly wiped out, but we learned that the people had really banded together to help each other out and open their homes to those affected.

Once our beds were ready, we got our disgusting sheets for our grody beds and went upstairs to settle in (Jared, who gave us our sheets, walked away without telling us what room we were in. Brilliant.) We met three other women in the room, who were there when we arrived. The one pair of women didn't seem to be too sure of where they were from when we asked (they seemed a little confused on the matter), though they were just as tired as we were (so we'll let that slide). The other woman, Katelin, who hails from Oklahoma City, was staying on the bed near Rachel. She too had tragedy strike her home recently with a class 5 tornado. She told us where she was travelling and learned she was seeing a lot of the same places we were. We talked for awhile and decided to go see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and walk around central London tomorrow. Oh and the Tower of London of course.

I can't wait to walk through St. James Park and see Rachel's reaction to the over-enthusiastic, fat, little squirrels. Anyhow, we went for a "nap" and ended up sleeping a long time. We updated ourselves on home and decided to go for a walk in our area. We happened to be staying near the West Ham Football Stadium (unfortunately not Arsenal for Rachel) and we discovered that the part of town we are staying in is, essentially, the equivalent of North East Calgary...on a much larger scale.

I can't get over how old buildings are here compared with those in Calgary. And if the weather continues the way it has back in our home, it never be that way. We walked down Green Street and then back to Barking. We chanced upon a Dr. Who store in which we fully intend to return to tomorrow when it's open to send pictures to Kristy (yeah we totally forgot). We dropped by a Tesco, picked up Fanta (Fanta Zero by accident...ugh), some pre-made sandwiches and salad (which turned out to be pretty disgusting) and some British Cadbury chocolate, then returned to the lounge to eat. After we were done eating and watching awful British sitcoms, we returned to our dorm to plan our next, hopefully more exciting and less confusing, day.

The Plane to London

There are a lot of aspects I would like to write about from this trip, not only what happened and what we did, but what I was thinking and what I want to do now that I'm back home. I have a whole new set of ambition that I did not have when I left and I am excited to see it through. I did not manage to write every single day as I started out. I managed to keep up with the entries for about a week since I got tired or sick some days and didn't want to write anything. As of right now, I am 9 days behind. For the following journals, I will type the day I wrote it in brackets, and the day all the events occurred in italics. Any interjections I have with my original narrative will be bold like this block of text.

June 20, 2013
(June 21, 2013)

Strictly speaking, the date happens to be June 21, but I wouldn't want to leave out the first day of our fantastic journey across the European continent. We will be touching down in London soon at the Gatwick airport after a typical flight of movies on minuscule, dated screens (seriously, the only "tube" TV I've seen in the past few years is the crummy one I have in my bedroom to play Gamecube and Sega Genesis on) half hidden by passenger's heads, at least three screaming or crying children and the occasional bout of turbulence. On my right is Rachel, who is currently watching a movie about some guy in India collection old people (?) and to my left is a quiet man, whom I have decided is French, or at least of a French-speaking country (plus he chose the French option for his movie...I'm not creepy...). I liked his iPad cover.

The day began with me not wanting to get up as it would likely be my last comfortable sleep in five weeks (I will be happy to be proven wrong). I was convinced to get up, however, by an irritating song on the radio (which is usually how I start most mornings). That, and I needed to finish packing. And I swear I mean finish this time. I was too stressed and nervous to leave it to the last possible minute as usual. The morning was mostly uneventful aside from a trip to my grandparent's house for coffee and cookies. Because what my nerves really needed was caffeine and sugar. Of course this was later helped by my last taste of Timmies, an iced cappechino I enjoyed with Hazen, Kyle, Rachel's mother and Rachel's mother's boyfriend.

We had our coffee and good-byes punctuated with the irritation of lines, papers and grumpy uniformed airport security at the scanners. Because the smell of a thousand feet is supposed to make me feel secure on my flight (I'm always a little bitter about security at airports). Regardless, I removed my footwear (the only city I actually HAD to going through security...which was odd), bag, phone, laptop, jacket like the rest.

Upon passing an arcade outside security, we came across an old favourite of ours from Jr. High math class: Bubble Bobble. We decided we had time for a game. As my friend's lives dwindled, I still had two lives and limited minutes to get the high score. Triumph I did, though we barely made the last call for our gate as a consequence. Heh.

So here I sit, old people movie now complete (strange Indian theme on this flight with the showing of "Life of Pi" first), breathing recycled air as Rachel digs around in her pack for something eluding her reach. I will probably return to reading "The Hound of the Baskervilles" and actually finish this time after trying at least three times in the past to read it. It has actually piqued my interest, probably because I'm a fan of the episode based on the book in the BBC Sherlock.

...

So thus begins our journey. On a cramped, stuffy, sleepy, dated aircraft.

(Which I will appreciate before this trip is over

I'm Back!

And ready to get back into writing and video production. I'll be beginning videos today, including more video game recording and to get back into Dungeon Siege 3 to beat that stupid multi-armed boss. I am not going to sleep tonight until that statue is no more. I have had a request to play Diablo 1 after this LP, so I shall do that. I also decided while I was away that I would LP Half Life 1 and Overlord 1. I feel like I have unfinished business with both. I'm also debating uploading the Baldur's Gate video footage that I have, but I'm not sure if it would be interesting enough. We'll see. I certainly get mad in it because of some of the fights.

I will also be posting updates here from my trip with video and pictures. I journalled the entire time (though I have yet to finish the last 9 days or so of the trip). I figure I can hit two birds with one stone by sharing what we did and edit them up in the process. My only fear is that I can't read my own writing. I shall start now. After all, what else is one to do at 5am when they can't sleep?

Travel

As of Thursday, I will be gone for a month and a half. I'm trying to get a lot of videos uploaded before then, but I won't have Dungeon Siege 3 fully recorded, encoded and uploaded before I go unfortunately. I won't be taking my laptop or external drives with me as they are too heavy and I don't want to risk them getting broken, lost or stolen (I can't really afford to let that happen). And so, I will try and post some updates here and perhaps have some videos prepared for when I return at the beginning of August.

I am done school, graduated and ready to work full time for the rest of my life. Good news is, I will probably have MORE time to record with no homework or papers to worry about. I'm actually going to miss school though. I'm a nerd.

So, I will be around for a few more days. After that, if you never hear from me again, I probably fell victim to one of the following:

-kidnapped by trolls
-got hopelessly lost and starved to death
-got eaten by a bear or a giant rabid moose or a grue
-got assaulted by a killer rabbit or beaver or a combination of the two
-executed my leap of faith incorrectly and missed the haystack
-got hit by a runaway scooter
-sacrificed myself to disarm a bomb that would have been sent to the earth's core in a desperate attempt to destroy the world
-choked on a crepe
-went crazy after being bitten by a cave spider
-got run over by a street cleaner
-got slapped in the face with a cod
-got trapped in an invisible box by mimes
-engaged in an epic battle with one of my many doppelgangers, eventually destroying us both
-encountered a giant robot minotaur in a labyrinth where I became lost after being kidnapped and taken there by trolls

Or something along those lines.

Questions on My Mind...

Such as:

Is a person who played video games before they were cool, who wears outrageously huge glasses and can be incredibly pretentious a nerd or a hipster?

...

That and why can't I figure out where I stuffed all those dodgeball videos? Interns.

Nostalgia Wins

So after thinking a long time on what I'd like to do next after Dungeon Siege 3, I realized that most people watching my videos seem to like watching content from the old games a lot more than the new games. I'm not sure if that's because there are more videos of the new games out there, or people just like watching older games for nostalgic reasons. That or there are reasons I don't quite comprehend or haven't thought of, which is probably the case.

My point here is that I know what I will be doing an LP of next. I will leave it a surprise. In the meantime, I will finish Dungeon Siege 3 and continue to post a series of micro videos highlighting my adventures playing an MMO. I don't play MMOs very often. When I do, I get bored fast. I have two great people to play with, and I find having them play is motivation enough to keep up in levels and look for better items. We've been playing the Neverwinter open beta, as mentioned in another post I believe, and it has been decent all around. So far, the difficult dungeons and PvP have been the most fun for me. I don't really care about items or getting my hands on the best stuff. The only reason I want decent items is so I can take on more challenging opponents. The best are those equally matched with myself. That way I don't feel bad about winning and I don't get frustrated for losing.

Anyhow, I picked out some of the clips that amused me the most, and hopefully they'll amuse you too. I worry sometimes that my humour is too strange or stupid for anyone to care for the jokes. And in some cases...they're really awful.

Like REALLY awful.

Like so awful that you want to rip out your own eyeballs with your bare hands and offer up your soul to the highest bidder because you have no use for its tattered remains.

That bad.

Imagine Dragons

Amazing concert by Imagine Dragons last night. Opening bands were fairly decent as well. I'll admit I liked the sound of X Ambassadors from New York. The lead singer had an amazing voice. Their flailing, head-banging and terrible "Canadian accents" were also very amusing. Probably added to my enjoyment overall, though probably not for the reasons you'd expect. Regardless, I'll be looking into their music more. The Envy Corps was the second band to open, and while they were a little more generic sounding than the first, I still enjoyed listening to their music. The most engaging part of their music was actually the introductions itself. I loved the bass they used, but the singing didn't do much for me.

The Imagine Dragons themselves, while coming out a little late, were fantastic. I have a feeling the delay was so the stage crew could move and set up a massive amount of drums and the full stage aesthetic, which included bare trees with glowing lanterns hanging from them. This was certainly one of the most pretty shows I've seen, and the fact that they're from Vegas really shows with their showmanship.

I was so happy when they opened with "Round and Round," one of my favourite tracks on their Night Visions album. The whole show included lights, amazing vocals and bass, and for their bit hit, "Radioactive," the lead jumped into a harness, rose above the stage and flew like superman to a drum suspended over the crowd. I'm still not sure if I found this more amazing or hilarious. A bit of both I suppose.

I loved the energy of the band, I loved the was the stage and light show in the background looked, and I loved the giant confetti balloons. Because balloons and confetti make everything better. Strangest part of the whole performance that evening? Nothing overly strange, stupid or crazy happened. It was a completely "normal" concert for me. No shady underground bars, no parking tickets, no money falling out of my pockets, no hail storms, no one spitting water over the audience (though the lead did open a bottle and throw water on the crowd), no super intense wide-eyed stage destroying singers, no drunk people tripping all over you being dragged across the room multiple times...just a couple of people smoking weed. That's pretty normal. That doesn't happen. Prepare yourselves. The apocalypse nears.

I'd definitely recommend the concert though, just be prepared for a 4 hour+ venture for the evening.

Lord of the Rings Concert

Turned into a Fellowship of the Ring movie screening with live music. Full orchestra plus about a 100 person choir, singing and playing on cue to the movie. It was spectacular. I never saw the Fellowship of the Ring in theatres (I was 11 at the time and I would be in Jr. High right before the release if The Two Towers before I learned of it) so this was really quite special for me. I love movies, and I love going to watch them in theatres with the perfect audience. These people were the perfect audience, laughing, gasping or being sad all at the right times. Also, about half the audience understood or knew of the many memes now associated with the movie, so I was quite entertained when half the audience started snickering at those points.

I was actually reminded of a drinking game my friends played on one of our ski trips watching the trilogy over three nights. I thought I'd share it here for those interested in such activities.

1. Drink whenever you see the ring.
2. Drink whenever Pippin screws up.
3. Drink whenever there's an "Oh-face."
4. Drink whenever one of the characters sheds a stoic man-tear/
5. If you hate your liver, drink whenever there's a "moment" between two characters (common one Sam/Frodo or Legolas/Aragron) - can be adjusted to be between only a few characters if you're worried about alcohol poisoning.

Special/additional rules:
-Drink once for every man-tear you or your friends shed for Boromir at the end of FoTR
-Drink once for every over-the-top trick Legolas performs
-Drink once for every character that arrives in Frodo's bedroom in RoTK at the end of the movie

If you play this game all the way to the end, especially in FoTR and RoTK, I can't guarantee you'll be alive at the end of the screening.

Meanwhile in video upload land. I need to record more Dungeon Siege 3 and get that posted. I think we're done with Amnesia-type videos for now. I still have a large amount of Left 4 Dead 2 videos to post as well as some new videos of the newer MMO, Neverwinter that I'm playing with my friends Shauna and Nick. I'll try to keep you all updated.

Because Nintendo Wasn't Making Enough Money

They decided to cash in a little more:

http://penny-arcade.com/report/article/nintendo-takes-legal-action-against-its-own-community-claims-rights-over-yo

I haven't LPed any Nintendo games in the past, and wasn't planning to LP any in the near future, but this seems a little ridiculous to me. The article practically sums up my thoughts on the matter, but I figured I'd spread the word (as small as my audience is) and let other LPers know what was going on. I must say I am upset, especially because I really like a lot of Nintendo games (cough cough FIRE EMBLEM), but I certainly am not interested in LPing any of their games if this is the way they are going to act towards people that actually end up promoting their games at the end of the day.

Oh crap, I just realized the sound effects and possibly some music from my videos would technically fall under this category. Wonder if I'll be seeing some notices in the near future. Hmmmm

Drifting

All my marks are in from school, so now all I need to do is put on a silly robe, pick up a couple of pieces of paper and wait around for three hours while I wait for other people with silly robes to pick up their slips of paper. In the meantime, I will continue making LPs and other videos for YouTube.

I will be gone for a month and a half this summer, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have to start new LPs after I complete Dungeon Siege 3. I am estimating that I'm a little over half done DS3, but it's been a long time since I was last at the part I'm thinking of AND I never actually finished the game last time. I got very mad about this one battle, which I am sure will make me very mad again. I have a ton of ideas for new LPs however.

1) Single Player LPs:

I am thinking of LPs I can do on my own time in the next while. I may return to the Dungeon Siege series to complete additional quests or do a showcase of pets and recipes, but ultimately I want to move on to new games.

My top options for LPs at the moment are: Half Life 1 (the original, not the overhaul it got last year), Diablo 1 (of which I have only completed once), Baldur's Gate (of which I already have three videos) and Overlord 1 (of which I started a text LP and then promptly gave up on it).

2) Multiplayer LPs:

I have a lot more Left 4 Dead 2 videos I can post, which people seem less interested in watching. My brother and I play most of them, but I have some friends join us in other campaigns, including another LPer, IskatuMesk, which I unfortunately didn't get the entire recording of the campaign for. Shauna and I are still debating whether we will do an Amnesia: Machine for Pigs LP, but you can guarantee that we will be doing more LPs, probably horror survival related, in the future. We are also contemplating joining up with another friend of hers to do a Neverwinter LP, but we haven't got the details of that one worked out yet. I also have multiplayer videos of Dungeon Siege 1, but I'm not sure what videos of that one are going to be produced.

3) Reviews, Compilation videos and Music:

I currently have a review of Amnesia: The Dark Descent done by Shauna and myself encoding on my computer. I plan to upload it tonight (if it cooperates. It is an hour and 7 minutes long, and would probably only target a few people, but I feel we give an in-depth analysis of the game. It's the first time I've done a video review and I may move on to do reviews of the Dungeon Siege series and perhaps some Fire Emblem games. I am not sure how these reviews will work yet, or even if it's worth doing. I'll have to see if people are interested in seeing them. As for compilation videos, I have another Left 3 Dead 2 one planned that I need to review a lot of video for. I currently don't have enough footage for another "Five Years of Flails" type video yet, so that will be a long time coming. As for music, I plan on making some more continuous tracks for video games, but I am not sure which ones yet. Probably Dungeon Siege 2 or and extended version of the Dungeon Siege 1 version.

Overall, I have a lot to work on. I will be asking any viewers interested what they'd like to see as an LP. If no one really cares, I'll do whatever the hell I want and hope for the best.

Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo 2013: Sunday

Phew what a weekend. I feel exhausted, but it was certainly well-worth the time, money and effort. I am now significantly poorer, even though I held off on a lot of purchases this year. Anyhow, woke up a little late today as I desperately needed the sleep after a 12-hour day in heels on the Saturday. I decided that today was best spent in my slippers. So I wore my slippers to the con.

Creepy. Anyway, Oliver and I tried to get there for the Nathon Fillion Panel, but unfortunately we weren't there early enough and found that the giant sliding door to the corral area was closed and a man on a megaphone was basically telling everyone to bugger off. We may have been able to sneak in a side door, but we decided to just wander the con instead. We got to see a lot of cosplayers and merchandise at least. Some of which was rather...frightening.

I loved these pieces of art. They were foam stand-up pieces that were attached by magnet to their bases so you could transport them flat. They had all sorts of characters including Marvel, Avatar (anime), Axis Powers Hetalia, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Left 4 Dead, Half Life, Fullmetal Alchemist and more. I would have bought a bunch of them, but I had neither the money nor the space to store them currently, so I passed this year. This is also one of the reasons I didn't buy any artwork as I don't have anywhere to display them.

Found another Katara today and an Aang to boot! A few feet away were Hiroshi Warriors, which I decided not to bother as there were a lot of people and Aang was trying to have a conversation with them. This gave Oliver a FANTASTIC idea for cosplay next year however. I would be the happiest person alive if we did it, but I'll leave it a surprise just in case.

Shortly after this I stopped at an artist's table to purchase a necklace that caught my eye. I looked up to see someone sitting there that looked extremely familiar. I read the tag around her neck and then I realized that I worked with her sister. I said hi and she told me the necklace I was buying was made by my coworker. Small world.

Thought this was pretty funny. In case it's hard to read, the artist had taken a sharpie to his sign and had written "beer," "hookers" and "I want all your money" on his sign. At least I THINK he wrote it. Either way, it's pretty amusing.

And then this. I'm going to have nightmares for a week. DOMO IS GOING TO EAT US ALL.

Tank Girl and Jet Girl! In civies. Met up with her and her friends for a little while before we headed our separate ways to do some more shopping.

Meanwhile, we stopped every so often to be evil geniuses. Muahahahahhaha, Yeah, we didn't get as many spotpasses as we'd have liked today as we arrived in the early afternoon and by then most people were beginning to leave. A lot of people go on the Sunday just to get their photos signed by the actors and other media guests as many of the autograph sessions were today. Still, I got about 40-50 passes, which is pretty decent.

While we were stopped in the place I took the 3DS photo, this fellow arrived. He was identified as "Brotherhood of Steel" to me, which is from Fallout 3. Never played the game (not yet), but it was still a sweet costume.

Companion cube <3

Oh and giant, expensive airsoft guns. Because why not?

We met up with some other friends and did a little more shopping together. I was very sad for this giant Yoshi in the corner by the boxes. He just looked so lonely. Guess no one had the space or money to take him home. That said, he was extremely top-heavy with his massive melon of a head.

A place offering "crystal healing" and "energy matrix recalibration" and "angel readings" among other services. I think this is all some kind of conspiracy. I mean, why else would there be a G-man sitting in their booth?

Another picture in the unfortunate timing series. I met up with my friend Loki here who we spent the rest of the day with. She was looking menacing while my other friend took a picture with my crackberry. She took a little long so her menacing face turned into a "have you taken it?" face. Meanwhile I was trying to look scared by her face, and ended up just looking like she had done something unpleasant instead. I REALLY apologize for this one, but it was just too funny.

Anyway, the con overall was great. Nerd Christmas is always one of my favourite times of year. The organization this year was leaps and bounds greater than last, and I met so many amazing people. Next year I'm hoping to see a lot of them again, and maybe try out some new cosplay ideas that we have. Thanks to everyone who ran it, all of the media guests, exhibitors and vendors that came, and to all the fans who make each comic con so much fun for me. See you all next year!

Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo 2013: Saturday

As most of my pictures contain Tank Girl, I really could have dubbed this day the "Adventures of Tank Girl (and Jet Girl)." Jet Girl was just the photographer.

I stay up fairly late into the night working on a helmet that I think will be an essential part of my costume. It wasn't. Regardless, I was excited to be Jet Girl the next day. I'm not sure why I look like a serial killer.

I wake up and get ready for what would be one of the longest, most tiring days of my life. I'm definitely feeling it today as I write this. Especially in my legs and feet. It was a good day, but it was exhausting. I spent my day with Sarah aka "Tank Girl" who has upgraded her costume every year for the con. This year she added a RPG launcher and a couple of grenades to her costume in addition to a new coat of paint on her... torpedoes. My costume was certainly in the shadow of hers, but some people really appreciated that we had dressed up as two of the characters from the comic.

We immediately made our way to the centre of the exhibition building to sign in for the costume contest later that evening. Sarah had missed it the past two years (last year due a long admissions line and a lot of people wanting to take her picture), so we made sure to get there for her first. After being stopped about once every five feet for photos, we finally arrived at the booth. Somehow I figured that entering the contest as a team would be awesome and she liked the idea, so we registered together and were set to be in the contest. As I have stage freight and a lack of confidence, I really don't know what came over me. Regardless, we were in it. After leaving the booth we met Red Skull in the picture above. We saw him last year and it was good to see him out again. His costume is magnificent.

We wandered around for most of the day taking pictures, doing some broken, ineffective browsing and shopping, and meeting up with people we knew at the con. Tank girl had a lot of connections, meeting up with volunteers that she knew while she looked for the friend that made her torpedo top and RPG. He is a part of the 501st Badlands Garrison group, making movie-quality props and costumes. I don't know if she ever met up with him, but we didn't see him while I was travelling with her. We did, however, run into another Tank Girl sporting a target top and fish net stockings. Wasn't sure what she thought of the rocket boobs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLdGo892gqs

I know what most other people thought however. We were very entertained by all the comments we heard such as "that's different," "that's interesting," "oh my god," "that, is awesome," "nice rockets," "are those real," and "wow." Tank Girl's catch-phrases were "lock up your sons," "bang bang," "p-p-p-pow," and "yup, these are real." We encountered this fellow here, which unfortunately I have no idea what he is from, but I liked the shiny lights and music. His shoes were also platform and had crazy lightning circles. A lady at a kiosk next to me said someone should be videoing it. Ironically enough, I was already getting the camera ready on my crackberry. My favourite part is when she just turns and poses for a guy taking a photo.

The random glitches in the video are from the flashes in people's cameras. I kind of wish some of them didn't put the flashes on, especially when we would stop in an area for a few minutes and a lot of pictures would be taken. I was blinded more than once. One funny instance was after about five photos were taken, I couldn't see for a few seconds, but when my eyes recovered the person standing right in front of me was someone I knew. So I must have looked super dazed before I said "OHI."

Met up with Captain Jack Sparrow, who would eventually go on to win Best Performance in his category later on in the contest. With good reason, he was in character all day. I love how later on we were sitting in the room waiting for the contest to start and I say to Tank Girl, oh look, Jack Sparrow is here. Without looking she says "what, the good one" and turns to see him looking surprised at her. Then she says "yup, the good one" to which he laughed. The woman next to him said "well at least he was the good one or that would have been awkward." And then we all laughed. And laughed. And promptly went back to ignoring each other for the time being.

Meant to get a picture of this guy on the Friday, but I missed my opportunity and the volunteers were shooing us out of the hallway. Found him again on the Saturday and asked for his picture. The Doctor from Assassin's Creed had a spring loaded needle that would pop up when prompted, He also had a cool detail on his back with vials filled with different coloured liquids. Was pretty fantastic. I love the little "Strange" sign above his shoulder for an added unintentional touch.

And then we blew up Lego Star Wars land.

First of a couple photos taken with incredible (and accidental) timing. Wolf Cop came along to get a picture and they were in the middle of figuring out a pose as I snapped a picture. The facial expressions here are just priceless. Especially Wolf Cop.

As Wolf Cop and Tank Girl finished getting their photos taken, this duo was pointed out to me. As Oliver put it: "Dad of the Year." I thought it was adorable, though I'm not sure why the kid was doing the splits. He was doing a bunch of poses before he decided that this was the best one. Clever idea regardless, and the kid seemed to be having a lot of fun.

One of two amazing Optimus Prime costumes that we saw that day. Both entered the costume contest later on, though I don't believe either one of them won anything as far as I can recall. Too bad too. They were both excellent and one of the guys broke a leg (an Optimus Prime leg) as he excited the stage. Thankfully some people were there to catch him as he fell while his costume dismantled itself.

Later in the afternoon I start to hear horns and drums as the Vikings entered the exhibition hall and began marching around the outside aisles. They all stopped in the autograph building where we encountered the group of them. I asked Tank Girl if she wanted a picture with them, which resulted in one of the greatest costume contrasts I saw all day. Snapped the first one with her camera and moved to get mine just in time to get her leaving the group. I found the picture amusing as it looked like some epic confrontation or battle was about to begin. I believe these fellows were also demonstrating sword and shield combat outside throughout the day.

One of my favourite moments yesterday was when we passed the Space booth and two men were in the midst of a discussion or interview when in the middle of a sentence the one guy yells "OH MY GOD IT'S TANK GIRL" and then continues with the conversation. The camera person looked so confused as she wasn't sure whether to turn the camera to look at Tank Girl or continue holding on the people talking. I look forward to seeing that interview sometime...if they don't edit it out. Anyhow, we passed the booth again later and these fellows that we did an interview with earlier (much to my dismay as I was part of said interview) spotted Tank Girl and asked if she'd like to do an introduction to their program. I got a lot of enjoyment watching her say the lines. I did get a video, but the voices are incredibly hard to hear, so I decided not to post it.

Shortly after we met Skeletor from He Man, so we got a few candid shots with him. The first is one of my favourites from the entire day as I just love Skeletor's facial expression. You can probably tell from the picture, but Skeletor was super tall. One of the tallest people I saw at the con, so he really stood out. Oddly enough, he also turned out to be one of the judges for the contest later. The child in front was getting his picture taken with a bunch of cosplayers at the time and he kept getting in all the pictures. Wasn't a big deal. At least he was a cute kid.

On our way outside Tank Girl had another battle, this time with Iron Man. Tank Girl insisted that she was winning (obviously). Iron Man ended up being at the con all three days. Kudos to him and his stamina. I cosplayed one day and now I feel like a truck hit me, ran me over a few times and then dumped the contents of the cabin's ash tray on my head before leaving me in the dust as road kill. Point is, the costume and the cosplayer was awesome.

On our way to the Big Four building while Tank Girl was getting pictures taken I shuffled off to the side to get a picture of some characters from The Hobbit. There were a few good Saurumans running around the con, but this is the only Gandalf I ever saw. I did have the opportunity to have a couple pictures taken with Gandalf's staff (no comment) as I mentioned earlier, but I have yet to track down who has that photo.

Had some supper in the food court, which thankfully wasn't packed full wall to wall with people as it was last year. It was rather spacious and included a bouncey house for the children. Though I couldn't help but imagine some of the cosplayers in there. I doubt the house (or some of the costumes) would have lasted long. Tank Girl also found another use for her torpedoes as a table/napkin holder. What was really nice about the food court was that people almost universally understood it to be the "we're taking a break here so don't bother us to take photos" zone. Was nice to sit down and take a break, especially for someone who doesn't normally wear heels. My feet were killing me. The salad was fairly tasty if not stupidly expensive.

Tank Girl and I split off for awhile at this time as I had a photo op to go to. I was so excited to meet Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard and Mitch Pileggi and get my picture taken with them. I'm not normally the squealing fangirl type, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't super happy to be there. They were all really nice, though saying I "met" them was stretching it a bit. The person I split the photo op with went back on the Sunday in the autograph line just to meet him and shake his hand. I was happy enough with the photo, though it would have been nice to say hello with her.

So, as I mentioned before, Tank Girl and I had entered into the costume contest, of which we had to check in for at 6. My photo op was at 5, and the HIGHLY INTELLIGENT volunteers outside told us that no one was being allowed to line up for it. We asked twice and got the same answer. At 5 we approach another volunteer and he tells us that people began lining up 15 minutes before. We go in and end up being 5th last in line for the photo op. So I end up arriving JUST in time for the contest, running on my already destroyed feet, nearly breaking my ankle a couple times and we were ushered into a side room for pre-judging.

Inside we had a chance to talk with a bunch of other cosplayers, some of which I have already mentioned. I was so impressed by all the costumes in the room and how friendly everyone was, even after a day dealing with hot, sweaty costumes, over-enthusiastic fans and annoying comments. I overheard the man who cosplayed Dr. Manhattan recalling all the ridiculous comments that he had received all day. The top three were "who were you in Avatar?," "are you one of the guys from the blue man group?" and something along the lines of "you're not a very silver silver surfer." (I can't really remember the last one). The one woman in a Samus suit (with lights and everything!) was saying how next year she'll be installing a fan because she was overheating in the suit (a common problem). She won the Novice category in the contest, so hopefully it was worth it. A man dressed as Flin Rider chatted with us (and scared us half to death) about his skit on stage. He was saying how he hoped his lines would be good enough to carry him through the competition. We thought we had to do a skit as well, and we hadn't prepared anything, but we were told we checked the "walk" option on our entry form, which meant we only had to do a couple poses. Anyway, I think he made a good Flin Rider. A guy playing Jack Frost from the Legends of the Guardian also talked to us about the con and some of his experiences with cosplay, which was interesting. We also met a new friend dressed as Cloud from Final Fantasy 7. She had an awesome home-made buster blade. Apparently she had cosplayed Shadow Link the day before and switched to Cloud for the Saturday contest. I want to be able to switch costumes like that some day. Regardless, we exchanged contact information and suggested that we look for each other in future cons.

Waiting to go on stage. First picture was for the judging and individual walks. Second picture was for the finale when we walked out as a group so the audience could take photos. Top photo includes one of the organizers in the Link costume, the kid in an R2D2 suit who was telling us how it started as a salad bowl and ended up as a Halloween costume out of control. I also had a good chat with his father about the Flames and their prospects for next season. On the right was a female assassin who won the Master level category of the competition. Her suit was fantastic. Bottom picture you can make out the Samus I mentioned earlier in the middle. To the left of her was Haytham, one of my favourite costumes of the con that I unfortunately didn't get a good picture of (or less blurry in the case of my camera). The red blob in the front was a custom Spiderman costume. The guy bought the base materials and did the designs and details on the suit himself. To put it in context, it looked almost exactly like the suit from the most recent Spiderman movie.

Sitting, waiting for the photo session to come to a close and to find out the winners of the contest. As we waited a group of people working with the con did some stand-up and improv to entertain us. Look closely and you can see the giant sword Cloud was carrying and the light sabre of Darth Maul. Darth Maul, if I heard this correctly, took 7 hours to prepare his costume that day. He had to paint his body, glue horns and other aesthetic objects onto himself and ensure he had all the pieces to his costume. A lot of effort goes into these costumes that I never really knew about. Tank Girl herself took 2 hours to get dressed and ready for the con.

Probably my favourite picture overall from the con this weekend. Cloud, Tank Girl and Jet Girl unite! It was a long, tiring day, but we had a lot of fun, learned a lot about people and their costumes, and made a couple friends along the way. YEAH COMIC CON.
